Over the last week and a half students have been covering the
chapter on Government (Ch. 15). Yesterday they listened to political party
platforms and debates and then they did a Student Vote. Today students were
divided into groups according to how they voted which created our government in
power as well as our opposition. Each group voted for their leaders which
created our Prime Minister and our Opposition Leader. They then proposed a bill
(projet de loi) and will be debating this bill on Monday in class. Information
about our Mock Government Project is on the school web site (second page of
documents) and the script will be placed on desks for Monday's debate. Students
are asked to dress up and be prepared with all their research as Parliament will

Students have signed up for one of our presentation dates (Thursdays only). Students must choose a political cartoon, bring it in and write three paragraphs about it: 1- Description of what they see, 2- Explanation of that it means (research required) and 3- Personal opinion. The written format is due Nov. 1st.
Students must also work on the creation of new Canadian Symbol which represents a multi-cultural Canada. This is due on Oct 17th.
The Quiz for Chapters 3 and 4 will be on Oct. 18th.
All students should be ready to present their Canadian songs in class.
Students should have:
- title of song
- name of group or singer(s)
- where the musician(s) is/are from
- something interesting about him/her/them
- description of what the song is about
- a link in the song to our Canadian Identity
- Bonus if song is French!!!!
*Students worked 10 minutes in class on Monday and 15 minutes in class today. Presentations start tomorrow.
