Mme Leroux

Greetings!

Over the last week and a half students have been covering the chapter on Government (Ch. 15). Yesterday they listened to political party platforms and debates and then they did a Student Vote. Today students were divided into groups according to how they voted which created our government in power as well as our opposition. Each group voted for their leaders which created our Prime Minister and our Opposition Leader. They then proposed a bill (projet de loi) and will be debating this bill on Monday in class. Information about our Mock Government Project is on the school web site (second page of documents) and the script will be placed on desks for Monday's debate. Students are asked to dress up and be prepared with all their research as Parliament will be in session. Best of luck to all. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday,

Have a wonderful weekend. Sincerely,

Mme Leroux (representing the Queen)

Students have signed up for one of our presentation dates (Thursdays only). Students must choose a political cartoon, bring it in and write three paragraphs about it: 1- Description of what they see, 2- Explanation of that it means (research required) and 3- Personal opinion. The written format is due Nov. 1st.

Students must also work on the creation of new Canadian Symbol which represents a multi-cultural Canada. This is due on Oct 17th.

The Quiz for Chapters 3 and 4 will be on Oct. 18th.

This journal may change a bit but it is up to help students who need to get caught up on their notes. For the most part, the answers are not there, but the questions and vocabulary words are. All answers can be found in the Social Studies textbook.

Students are reminded:

  • We have our chapter 2 quiz
  • BYOM (Bring Your Own Mug) for Hot Coco for KIVA
  • Update and beautify your journal as there will be a Journal Check

Just a reminder that students are working on a mini-project in class and are in need of a few materials:

  • paper (white or construction)
  • pencil crayons or markers
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • scotch tape

*Please Note: This project is NOT to be done at home. It is a classroom assignment.

All students should be ready to present their Canadian songs in class. Students should have: - title of song - name of group or singer(s) - where the musician(s) is/are from - something interesting about him/her/them - description of what the song is about - a link in the song to our Canadian Identity - Bonus if song is French!!!! *Students worked 10 minutes in class on Monday and 15 minutes in class today. Presentations start tomorrow.

Please note that the Chapter 1 quiz scheduled for tomorrow has been pushed to Monday September 17th.

Study Tips:

  • Check that you understand the curriculum outcomes. Chapter 1 is # 9.1.1 (course outine) and page 2 of your textbook ("questions importantes").
  • Read all five pages of your journal notes.
  • Use your textbook to remember conversations, presentations and activities we have done in class.
  • Remember, I test knowledge not memorization.
  • Try each question. Do your best.

This list should be used when identifying character traits for the Personal Identity Project.
